Re: Correspondence Chess

No. Atleast one.

Can you simulate the chess moves mentally?

Re: Correspondence Chess

Once, in my dad's University, a russian came. One of the professors were talking to him

Indian Professor: Its boring. Do you play chess?
Russian: Yes.
Indian: I wish we could play but there is no chessboard here.
Russian: Who needs a chessboard? You shall tell me a move, and I shall tell you one. That is how I play with my wife every evening while dining.

Could you do all of it in your head like that russian guy? Chess without GUI

Re: Correspondence Chess

Hi;

Could you do all of it in your head like that russian guy? Chess without GUI

When I was you age, I was able to play blindfold chess. As a matter of fact, I could play 4 games against 4 different people at once. This is quite common among chess players. It was banned in Russia at about that time because they believed it causes brain exhaustion. Of course this was a stupid reaction to the lives of Alexander Alekhine, Harry Nelson Pillsbury and Robert J. Fischer.

The ability to do so left me as I became old as well as the ability to draw and program well.

Re: Correspondence Chess

The other person has a board and pieces and you do not. You must visualize the position in your mind. This is not as difficult as it sounds. I could do four boards at the same time.

Re: Correspondence Chess

It showed me a technique but I did not like it. I just could do it. Of course, A. Alekhine could play 33 blindfold games at once at a much higher level. When I was young the record was 47 by George Koltanowski.

My point is, it is as natural as breathing. But siddhis as you should know are fleeting and meaningless.

Minor little abilities that seem amazing but are really not that important. I call them little siddhis.
