Hi math lovers!

Hi everyone!

Very excited to see a forum full of people who love math.

So does every here make math worksheets on Excel for fun too?!?! lol

No?....oh....well, I don't do that either.../looks around

I tutor math from pre-algebra to AP calculus BC. I enjoy using puzzles/games to enhance my lesson plans. I am currently a Rubiks Cube ambassador.

I could go on and on about how much I love math and teaching. Hope to meet more people on here!

Re: Hi math lovers!

hi roniman

Welcome to the forum.

I am currently a Rubiks Cube ambassador.

??  So what does that involve?  I wasn't aware they had an embassy?  smile

Bob

does online embassy count?

apparently i can't post links yet, but youcandothecubedotcom

it involves me getting more students/teachers to learn the rubiks cube.

Just out of curiosity, how many cubers do we haev on this forum?

Re: Hi math lovers!

That's a great site, thanks.

www.youcandothecube.com

You'll get full posting rights when you've been a member for a while.

Back in 1980, (Yes, I'm that old!), my school organised an inter-school cube competition.  Cube meisters had dismantled, filed and powdered their cubes for maximum speed and the winner did a cube in 71 secs.  One difficulty arises if you try to do this: the cube is likely to explode into separate pieces.  That's not so bad if you're on your own, but if it happens in a school hall, lots of times, then there's a real problem getting everybody's cube back together.

Have you come across Singmaster's book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Singmaster

Just out of curiosity, how many cubers do we have on this forum?

I don't know.  If you do a search, you'll find at least 8, but I expect the true number is much greater.  A bit like the inverse of god's algorithm; no one knows if 7 moves is always possible.  smile

Re: Hi math lovers!

Welcome to the forum;

I had been asking my grandpa for a cube for a long time.

So does every here make math worksheets on Excel for fun too?!?!

Atleast one of them does. The rest use Mathematica.

But how is he going to do the search?

Re: Hi math lovers!

But how is he going to do the search?

He clicks on 'search' and enters the term 'rubik'.

It's hard to mention RC in a post without using that word.

Of course, this will only give a lower bound, as some cubists may be closet cubists.

Bob

ps.  tell your grandpa that it is good for mathematical development  smile

Noo! He said that the cube is broken

Re: Hi math lovers!

Are you saying that he has one, but it is broken.  How badly ?  I may be able to say how you can put it back together.  Depends if the springs are still good.

Bob

ps.  Tell him that an unbroken cube is good for mathematical development but a broken one is good for engineering development.  smile  If it helps you may quote me on this to him.

No.  This is inverted logic.

Re: Hi math lovers!

Both are true. There exists a cubist who is a Picasso.

Great. Now we can let Zygons be Zygons.

It is. I can't think of a counter-example.
