I've seen that before. I like how it shows the creation of the drawing, rather than just showing us the drawing. I think it's possible to draw stuff, then rub it out and draw more stuff, which couldn't be conveyed with just a picture.
I never thought of using it for mathematical contexts though, so nice idea.
