I think you are on to something, Rexworth. (Welcome to the forum.)
If you push up the zoom factor you will see that these characters are made up of pixels. The backspace and delete key act like the human digestive system does with proteins (characters) breaking them down into amino acids (pixels), that can then be re-built into new proteins (characters).
What still puzzles me is the invisible characters like ASCII 32. Are these the dark matter of the computer universe? Are they made up of virtual pixels? Is there a Higgs boson of characters?
And what are pixels made of ?
