Scotland Independence debate

What do you feel about Scotland being independent?

The Pros :
North Sea Oil
Queen Elizabeth is still the Queen of Scots
Getting rid of David Cameron (Yes!!)
Getting rid of Nuclear Weapons (i.e. The Trident)

The Cons :
Revenues from North Sea oil and gas have fallen significantly to £4.7bn in 2013-14, down from £6.1bn the previous year.
The Union...

Alex Salmond is just as crazy....
Did Alex Salmond planned a plan B? Westminster rejected the idea of a currency union
We will have a Scottish-English Border. We need a passport to travel to Scotland.

Joining the EU while the UK is leaving it.

How I feel :
I believe we are better off together.

I do too. This drive to split things up is not good. But it is their choice.

I suspect that England will survive also I suspect the breakup would only be for show.

Re: Scotland Independence debate

hi chooipian

I think we're better off together too.  And that goes for the EU as well.

I'm South of the border so if the Scots leave, then I'm saddled with Cameron and his chums for ever.  Please Scotland take the wider viewpoint.  smile

There is also the question of whether the EU would even admit an independent Scotland.  Several EU states also have independence seeking regions and would be unhappy about setting a precedence.

It's right that regional matters should be agreed locally but there are too many business and economic ties for an estrangement to work.

And whatever will happen to the Union Flag ?

Re: Scotland Independence debate

Hi Bob,
I don't think they would change the flag. Most flags have the Union Flag at the canton position that means they will have to change theirs too. Not to mention the effect it will have on the UK's tourism industry...

Re: Scotland Independence debate

England still and always will exert a considerable amount of influence over its former colonies.

This year’s last night of the proms was last night! I missed it as well so I don’t know if the song was played.

Re: Scotland Independence debate

They did http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FkjIyQRdd5k I highly doubt they wouldn't considering it's played every year. Let's hope it's not the last...

Re: Scotland Independence debate

If Scotland becomes independent, who knows … in a few years time, maybe Wales will want to become self-governing as well. And then Northern Ireland will also want to join in – I mean out. eek

Re: Scotland Independence debate

Yes, I'm very pleased too.

But there's nothing wrong with local matters being decided locally in any democracy, so let's hope this is good for all parts of the UK.
