Re: 2006 Commonwealth Games

I probably would not go. (I didn't go to Sydney when it was the Olympics and that is closer.)

But what about you, ganesh?

Re: 2006 Commonwealth Games

Sure, I'd be in Delhi in 2010 AD during the games! I haven't watched any International sports event before, only cricket matches, all of them at Chennai!

Re: 2006 Commonwealth Games

On a quiz about commonwealth games there was a question.

What is another name ofr the Commonwealth Games.

A) Olympics Rip off
B) The Australian Games
C) The Friendly Games
D) The Less-Common-Wealth Game

73% of People Answered A.
22% Said B.
3% Said C (Which was the right answer)
2% Said D.

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Re: 2006 Commonwealth Games

I suppose people could think that ... but even though the Commonwealth Games began in 1930 (the modern era of Olympic Games began in 1896), they were first proposed in 1891.

But the history goes much deeper - there were Olympic-style games held in England since the early 1600s, and Pierre de Coubertin actually visited one of these in 1890 for inspiration.

So I suppose you could say they both have equally valid origins. smile
