For those running Windows, the following work on this forum

Activate NumLock, hold down the Alt key while entering the following codes from the number pad.

Note that the glyph appears after Alt is released.

I didn't realise you could create Math symbols like that...nice work putting them into a list like that.

You can create just about anything with (hex) Unicode.

Well, sometimes alt codes do not work for some reason at times, so I just simply use MS Word. On opening MS Word, click on the dropdown tab 'Insert', then click on 'symbols'. A window will open up with all the possible characters that Microsoft Word can provide you with in your current version, for the time being.

I have a laptop with no number pad. Do you have small numbers on your u, i, o, j, k, and l keys? This may be where your number pad is - it's just slanted. Activate numlock and use the corresponding keys ... unless you don't have the numbers there.

devante, there is just a thing as the character map in.. start menu>>all programs>>accessories>>system tools>>character map

which has every single character possible for every font on your computer, you get symbols like these ﻼﺷﮕﻍ♫ﮎ

I know, but it depends whether people find which one easier. I prefer the MS Word way, and that way is good too, but it depends on people's preferences to accessing that information.

There will be a way, I am sure. Experiment, that's how I found the codes I posted.

To create a character with an acute accent, press [Ctrl]['] (that's [Ctrl] and the apostrophe), followed by the character. For example, to type a lowercase or uppercase E with an acute accent, press [Ctrl]['] and then type e or E.
To enter a character with a grave accent, press [Ctrl][`] (which is the apostrophe under ¬ ), followed by the letter.
To add a tilde to a character, press [Ctrl][Shift][~], followed by the letter.
To add a circumflex, press [Ctrl][Shift][^], followed by the letter.
To add a dieresis (or umlaut), press [Ctrl][Shift][:] (the colon), followed by the letter.

Hey, the typing icon that flashes has two pixels attached to the near-top east of itself. And it looks annoying, and it won't go away. Any ideas why? >_>

I used to know a load more shortcuts for doing it, but I can't remember. Plus you have to try the above in word...but the only one I can really remember well is the basic accent-on-the-vowel trick. To create an á, é, í, ó or ú without opening or typing anything in word, hold Alt Gr and press any vowel. And it obviously doesn't work with consonants...
