Re: About the Exercises

Thanks - I will see if I can post some links at the beginning of each thread.

Re: About the Exercises

Hey there,

I would really like to post some exercises at some point - do you think there's any that are particularly needed? Could it be useful to have a thread where people make suggestions of the types of exercises they would like to see?

Also, what level is this forum aimed at - any level of math?

I was thinking of doing some exercises on complex numbers, as well as the basics of calculus (limits, continuity, etc), matrices and polar coordinates. Would these be appropriate?

Re: About the Exercises

I'd imagine they'd be appropriate. Take a look at Zhylliolom's Integration By Parts thread. wink

I think that this forum is aimed at all levels at maths - I didn't make all my exercises easy.

Or; you could gradually make each of your exercises harder.

Re: About the Exercises

It may be better to reduce the number of topics so it is easier for people to find.

For example, the three "Calculating Salaries" could be rolled into one topic.

In fact they could be put into a general "Money Exercises" topic.

Yes?

Maybe someone could merge them?

Hmm...maybe I did overdo it a little.

Re: About the Exercises

I cleaned up the "Basic Algebra" topic, deleted a bunch of answers but left some, for the benefit of new visitors.

Re: About the Exercises

It's all looking good. I think I might add some exercises!

Sorry to be picky, but Devanté, make sure you watch your spelling of 'exercises'. I started editing your first few posts until I realised it appears in just about every thread, I think. smile

Re: About the Exercises

I spelt it rong? Oh know!

When writing, I can spell it correctly, but it's like my finger automatically presses the 'c' button. I've trained my fingers not to do that now, though.

Thanks for reminding me. smile

Re: About the Exercises

I see you've already written some. Nice work, we need as many exercises as possible to be as good as the other math worksheet forums. smile

Re: About the Exercises

Rod, I see that the Formulas forum is sorted alphabetically by post title.

Would it be possible (and useful) to sort this forum in the same way, to ease searching?

Re: About the Exercises

But that would mean that MathsIsFun would have to sort them all by hand...maybe an attached link to this forum with all the links to the forum in alphabetical order. Nah, I prefer Justlookingforthemoment's idea.

I can see that MathsIsFun had to do it all by hand, since three new threads in the Formulas sections are not in alphabetical order.

Re: About the Exercises

Alpha is not an option in the current version of this forum. I did the formulas by creating them in reverse alpha order, then specifying "start date" for sorting.

Alpha would be nice.

And to me the number of topics is getting a little big for visitors - maybe we could consolidate some under a broader heading?

Re: About the Exercises

Oh, too bad there's no alpha sorting.

And yes, I agree that the amount of threads is a bit overwhelming.

We could group topics with minor differences (e.g. Calculating Pay with Whole Numbers/Decimals) together; or we could put all algebra together, all trigonometry together, all graphs together etc.

Re: About the Exercises

Or, alternatively, we could create a Category named Exercises, and create seperate forums for it, such as Trigonometry, Money, Calculus, etc.

All these ideas seem good.

Re: About the Exercises

A new category would be good if there were a lot more exercises (and we would still need to keep the number of forums low or it would become hard to scroll on the main page.)

But I can have a go at programming the alpha sort. I will have a look.

Yes, that might work, but I don't think the main page should be too long and cluttered. The page is a good length at the moment. Some of the uncommon categories might become unused.

Re: About the Exercises

you could have the categories sorted by the maths difficulty level on the exercises..

Amazing. The Exercises forum already has 3 pages worth of work.

Re: About the Exercises

And some of the "Basic" topics have 500 views.

BTW, if we sort alphabetically, and choose titles wisely, they can also be in order of difficulty.

So "Basic..." would be at the start.

Then "Intermediate..."

Then "Advanced"??? We need another word for Advanced!

Re: About the Exercises

Good point - But that would mean we would have to judge every thread and see whether it is basic or not.

Re: About the Exercises

Well, we can just "Do It" and then change later if someone disagrees.

Anyway, I haven't got that "Alpha Sort" done yet neutral

My idea: 'higher tier' in place of'advanced', maybe?

Alphabetically (not by level):

Advanced
Basic
Elementary
Higher
Intermediate
