I think the avatar rule is there for a reason. People start getting carried away and make complete use (and sometimes overuse) of the feature...you never know, I could wake up the next day and discover that everyone has immensely large-sized pictures next to their name.

But you make a good point. Although I don't completely agree with you.

I think the avatar and signature restrictions are fine as they are. They're big enough to show a bit of your personality, but they don't need to be huge because the forum is meant primarily for maths-based discussions rather than showing off big pictures. Similarly, with the signature, if you were allowed to have pictures or write a lot of text then we'd get stuff like:

HEY LOOK! THIS IS MY SIGNATURE!!! I LIKE PANDAS DO YOU LIKE PANDAS WELL I LIKE PANDAS TO SHOW HOW MUCH I LIKE PANDAS HERE IS A PICTURE OF A PANDA

Okay, I might have exaggerated a bit there, but hopefully you see my point.
You can still have the picture you want in your avatar though. You just need to shrink it a bit in paint first. It'll still look fine.

I agree. We'd get all sorts of blinding flashy signatures.

Can you imagine how much it would stretch the forum? And pictures in signatures would use up space. You'd have to scroll for ages to just get past the first page. I think it's fine the way it is. If you desperately want to have a picture in your signature, maybe put a link or something.

People have said in the past that the forum is nice and fast, so I would hate to slow it down. (The bigger the pictures are, and the more there are, the slower the forum goes).

Also, I don't think most members want an "in your face" forum, they like the words people write more. But maybe a *slight* increase in avatar size might not hurt.

Avatars are currently 60x60 with a 10k size limit. We could keep the 10k, but increase the size to 80x80. Opinions?

Yes, I don't see anything wrong with a small increase like that. And 10k is more than enough for an avatar of that size, so that's not a problem.
