Did I became more intelligent?

Hi everyone, I used to know that my IQ was 105.

A few months later (yesterday), I took another IQ test. I gained seven more points, meaning my IQ is 112.

And then, I saw about how can I increase it. According to a website, an N-back training can. It increases 2.75 to your IQ. http://brainscale.net/n-back/training

I tried to train myself with it. But, when I went to Level 3, I got poor results. I also started playing other brain games, like memory, math, etc.

Just today, I took the IQ test again to see if there were slight changes. The answer is no.

From 112, it became 130, according to http://www.free-iqtest.net, meaning I'm gifted.

Hi mathaholic;

Congratulations! 130 is a nice score.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

I didn't expect that, actually. I was just expecting a slight change! Anyways, thanks. Gifted.

Re: Did I became more intelligent?

hi mathaholic

Did you become more intelligent?  Well, if you define intelligence as 'the score you get from an IQ test' then yes you did!  But it is known that practice helps a person to improve their score, so, I'd say, you were always that intelligent and the training has just enabled you to demonstrate this.

IQ tests are culturally biased; by which I mean that how well you can do is partly determined by the way you have been brought up and what life experiences you've had*.  So it may simply be that you failed to perform at your best with the first test because you weren't used to the questions and how to tackle them.  After the training you had a better idea and so your score went up.

I think that a more important consideration is how you use your intelligence.  Some 'intelligent' people can be very dumb when it comes to actually doing things in life, so what use their intelligence then?

So think of this as being born with a talent that you are now discovering and developing.  Great!  smile

Re: Did I became more intelligent?

You're a genius. I repeated an IQ test and got 130. I got a longer one and got 108. The other one I got 112. To average it:

130 + 108 + 112 = 238 + 112 = 350

350 / 3 = 116.66667 ~ 117 (Above Average)

It's great that you're interested in improving your cognitive skills! Keep in mind that IQ scores can fluctuate and are not fixed. Consistent practice with various brain games can still benefit you.

Re: Did I became more intelligent?

For instance, in my life (I am 75 now), the known saying "Necessity is the mother of invention/innovation" seemed to work always.
Also, a problem will not be solved by the most intelligent human, if he doesn't have the slight interest in it.

Every living thing has no choice but to execute its pre-programmed instructions embedded in it (known as instincts).
But only a human may have the freedom and ability to oppose his natural robotic nature.
But, by opposing it, such a human becomes no more of this world.
