Music; What's Your Instrument?

Almost all of us have an instrument we like to play. What is yours? When did you first start playing? Are you any good at it? Share all your thoughts about your instrument, and maybe you can inspire others, too.

I play;

a) The Guitar (all styles, apart from bass, since I've never tried it before. But reading Bass Clef is so easy)
b) Keyboard
c) Harmonica (I lost it last week, so I can't play anymore sad )
d) Cello

The cello requires a lot of strength to play.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

Correct.

That is called Treble Clef...

Bass Clef is just a line down, so a C on a Treble Clef notation stave would look like an A on a Bass Clef notation stave.

Often referred to as 'a stave down'. Also, the portion of a piece I posted is a piece from Don Giovanni.

There actually a chorded version for the guitar.

I play keyboard, not piano.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

It's a little harder to play than the one that you've posted above, since in the chorded version you play 2 to 3 to 4 notes at once on the fretboard. Which sometimes can get complicated if you are repeating it. I made a mistake in it once.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

Who told you that guitar is the easiest? The guitar is very complex. You have your complex riffs from the twelfth fret and above. When you get into advanced guitaring it becomes very hard. Try playing some of the popular songs, and you'll see what I mean.

The guitar is one of THE hardest instruments there is. Probably harder than piano.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

Your music teacher is actually wrong there...because he guitar is one of the most difficult instruments there is, which is harder than piano. Most people give up on the guitar because it is so hard...try playing the guitar yourself.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

how is it the hardest? the piano is much harder. 1. there are 2 cleffs 2. there are so many keys 3. there are 3 foot panels 4. you get dizzy from seeing black and white notes 5. you might clamp your hands while trying to close it(ive done that before it hurt ALOT!) 6. the keys are on such a long scale you have to really stretch out 7. you have to use both hand 8. theres an accompniant as well which is ur left hand. 9. because its so wide you have to keep looking at ur left hand then right then left then right!

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

1. Guitar has 3 Clefs.
2. The guitar has is just as complex as that.
3. You must consider the 2 tone variances, and the types of overdrive, etc.
4. Guitar toughens up your fingers.
5. Your fingers can bleed from playing the electric too much.
6. The guitar requires more hand-eye co-ordination than the piano.
7. You have to use both hands in guitar, too. Plus, there are effect pedals. There is also an attachable mouth-organ.
8. You have to see where you picking finger is going to be to get a certain effect.
9. Same with guitar. To say that guitar is easy is laughable. It requires so much skill to play the guitar. It takes 20 or so years to become a serious professional. I, personally, tihnk you should try learning to play the guitar. Plus, faster fingers are needed for the guitar. And finally...
10. You need faster fingers for the guitar, and an immense amount of hand-eye co-ordination.

I could go on with 100 more things.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

Ive been playing drums for about 5 years, compared to other instruments its very basic really, but it does take extremely good coordination to play complex pieces, think of it this way, controlling both your hands, and both youre legs seperately doing different things. And apart from just basic rythms you have many things like paradiddles that can be used once you get them fast enought to make nice sounding pieces.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

If you can get a chance, though, try playing an electric guitar for a good 15 minutes...your fingers will be quite sore afterwards, but it helps your finger strength with other instruments, etc.

Re: Music; What's Your Instrument?

One more thing...have you heard of 'Fretboard Dabbing/Tapping' on the guitar? It is actually like the piano, but it only sounds good amplified, because trying to do that without an amplifier would only give you a very quiet sound. Finger Dabbing/Tapping above the 12th fret has an extremely good effect - It is almost the equivalent of playing notes on a piano.
