Well I do that in timestables as well but it is the teacher's fault for leaving it on the wall

You should've learned your tables when you were much younger. The key is to only memorise the tricky ones and not the easy ones.

My teacher used to block it out with a piece of card or paper.

Why should there even be a poster on the wall? I say that children should learn it at the age of 5-7.
