Make it so everyone who plays is immediately affected by the movement of data of the other players.
For example, if this was a chess game, then if I logged in, I would check if the next move was either taken by someone, or free for me to take part in. After you make a move, someone else must make the next move unless much time goes, so one person can't hog the whole thing.

I thought it would cost something to travel to places.
What about having different rankings depending on how well you buy and sell ?

If we're including turns in this (which sounds like a good idea, because that way everyone has equal chance of doing well no matter how much free time they have), then we could have different modes of transport that incorporate that.
For example, you can walk somewhere for free but it will take you 6 hours to get there, or you could take the train for a bit of money and get there in 3 hours, or take an expensive plane to get you there in half an hour, or maybe even pay through the nose to hire a teleporter that will cost you no time in transit whatsoever.

This "real time" concept could be implemented by a NextMoveTime. If you haven't had a move for 24 hours, you can take 24 hours worth of moves before you get locked out. Some things cost money, some cost time, some both, hey?
It is gonna have to be heavily database-driven.

I suppose similar to games like Urban Dead?
The game has become popular with casual gamers due to its "action point" mechanic (limiting the amount of actions a character can take in a single day of real time), straightforward gameplay, and the fact that it is free.

Just getting the real-time interactive database working would be a tremendous accomplishment.
Reminds me of ebay, where several bids are coming in. But the thing that will make this game really fun would be for someone to come up with some interesting rules.
When brainstorming up rules to this awesome game, you may wonder:
Can individuals join and change teams they belong to?
Can teams try to accomplish goals?
Should everyone fight for themselves?
If a team member keeps making mistakes, should other team members
vote him off the team?
Does the game ever come to a conclusion?
Could the game be in seasons, like sports?
.

Teams are a wonderful idea ... but I might not include them to begin with, as I have enough complexity so far. In the meantime - how would the rules of the game make teams more effective? (serious question, it happens in politics where self interest means joining a party to get your policies voted on, or in cycling where team tactics can assist a sprinter in winning for the team and hence prize money.)
Seasons! That would be great ... so losers get a chance to be winners next season.

Ooh yes, I like the idea of seasons.
One of the major flaws with most multiplayer online games is that for the most part, once the players who come in early have figured out the strategy and made themselves multimillionnaires, there's no way to ever overtake them. If the stats got completely reset every so often (say, 3 or 4 months), then new players would get just as much of a chance as old ones.

That would be a good idea because more people visit mathsisfun.com everyday and it won't be fair that the old players are always millionaires and the new players have no chance.

I have been thinking of writing a trading game (buy/sell type stuff)
Would you like to see such a thing, and what would it be like?
i have a brilliant idea!! my idea is this every one who is a member gets on a card withs stats then people will buy them and stuff e.g
title:(power member)
lightning
(my avatar would go here)
stats:(what you think of me like cool or funny)
worth:(like 8/10 or 6/10 although Oviously you MathsIsFun would get 10/10 and a shiny background for the moderators gold and real members silver) pretty cool huh?

The "MathsIsFun" Trading Cards ... interesting idea

thanks, and yes and every upgrade theres a new series , 1, 2 ect (by then you might get new real members and moderators and members by them)and if a member like LQ he has no avatar you could just put unidentified or unknown or something

I disagree with the part about putting a default avatar for people that suggests they have no avatar. We would end up with slightly slower pages. Similar to the avatar resizing problem.

yes but on the cards not on the web site.................just saying

I have a better idea to the game.
You are the mayor of a town, and you have to keep the townspeople happy and collect daily tax. Eventually, become the ruler of a city then a WHOLE COUNTRY. And you choose where you want to rule, make up a name for the town, etc.

So what's the difference between that and Sim City?

Sim City's cooler.

Just a "picture" of what it might look like: Trader Game Draft Layout
I don't have any code or database work behind it, so it doesn't do anything.
Opinions?

Hmm...that reminds me of our Frappr Map.
I think that has a good layout as it is. Not sure what could go in the toolbars, etc., though.
I like the idea of having a world atlas.

It's looking good.
How did you choose which cities to circle?
Offline
Maybe from the Frappr Map...? That's my guess, anyway...apart from randomly picked countries...
Looking good.
