compliment for this site

just now i have come across this site n i am hoping that my 8 year old is going to enjoy this tremendeously.Certainly i would like to contribute if i can,but would like to know about ABACUS .What is it and how it helps .

I saw a programme once. These children could solve incredible arithmetic problems in a matter of seconds by using the Abacus.
