Forum Down 8 Feb 07

The forum was down for a few hours today. Restarting MySQL solved the problem. Nothing lost that I know of.

Re: Forum Down 8 Feb 07

Didn't notice that. I was in the forum same time yesterday, Feb 8, 2007 (GMT 0400-0500) and I am here now Feb 9, 2007 (GMT 0400-0500). Good thing, nothing is lost.

Re: Forum Down 8 Feb 07

Thanks, Ganesh ... hopefully most members missed it!

It was simply that MySQL (the software that accesses the database) stopped working. After restarting it took off as if nothing had happened.

I have no idea what caused it. I have looked through the logs for a clue, but nothing. No special thing happened except it stopped. The message was "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)"

MySQL normally just runs (for weeks on end) without a hiccup. So I will just have to watch it. I will check every few hours for the next few days.

Re: Forum Down 8 Feb 07

I happened to have gone out to do my shopping. neutral

When I came home and tried to log in, I got the SQL-error message. I kept refreshing the page; then, about 20 minutes later, the forum was finally back up.

I don’t know how long it had been down for; for me, I was only unable to access it for about 20 minutes.

I got the same error message, except I couldn't access the MathsIsFun forum for the entire day. But, of course, I succeeded in doing so the next day (today).

Re: Forum Down 8 Feb 07

When I tried going on that night I was kind of wondering why there was an error with the page. I thought something was wrong with my computer so I spent 5 hours scanning for spyware and viruses lol!

All well
