I have paid an artist to jazz up the front page, and here is the draft: http://www.mathsisfun.com/index-scene.html
(Compare to the current page http://www.mathsisfun.com/index.html)
Could I have your opinions please (first impressions, color, layout, "age", etc)

I think it looks really good... nice colours and its easy to use! It is also young, but not too young. Its got a better layout than the old one - its easier to see where things are. I think it would go down well !

I love it.

I made a post here, did someone delete it?
Very subtle and interesting, shame because I posted a lot of stuff in my deleted one.
But it basically just covered that it was an amazing improvement and that the text on the main image (the new one) should be changed to be more consistent with the image itself.

What if the bottom was almost like a blog-style type of announcements for each update? Old updates can be archived to a back page somewhere, but all the ones within the last few months would appear in chronological order.
Cause I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly can't keep up with everything that MathsIsFun is doing.
As for the rest of it, it looks wonderful.

Great!
My biggest worry is that it will "brand" the site age-wise, whereas I like to cover every aspect of mathematics.
Maybe an "advanced" menu page just for Year 10 upwards?
Blog sounds like a good idea.
And what text would you think would be better, D?

On the new image, where it sayd 'Welcome to Maths Is Fun!' which is now in brown text, perhaps it could be changed a little (maybe the font?) to suit the image a little better.
It looks very good how it is, though.

Hey, couldn't the "Welcome to mathsisfun"... Be a road sign?

It's looking great!
Now that the image has all the links in it ... could the pink left-hand-side menu be deleted?
I also agree with the blog-style news/links. Good idea, Ricky. You could even have two columns - one with updates, the other with 'featured links' or 'game/activity/page of the day' or something of the sort.

I'd much rather go with the old look, but the new one's quite good, I suppose You could make it into a scene at the beach, and the 'Welcome to MathsIsFun.com' sign could be a beach sign and 'No fishing' in letters underneath. And add a few fat palm trees, turquoise sea, white sand and people mucking around. That would be so cool!

Hehe, yeah that would be neat
Great, we agree on the sign!

... could the pink left-hand-side menu be deleted?
I just wanted it to match the layout of lower pages.
Regarding the left-hand menu ... do you think the pink is too girl-oriented? Another color or style would be better?

Oh yes, now that you've said that it makes more sense to keep it.
I wouldn't change the pink because it's too girl-orientated ... I would change it because it's too pink. Change to blue to match the forum?

Blue anyone else?

I'd rather go for a nice shade of lilac or white.

Looking pretty at mathsisfun.com page. Also, the math_isfun.com page is still the old way, but you probably know that.

The index page is quite beautiful now, i guess better than what it was before! Keep up the good work, Rod!
