Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

Why ARB?  Yes, it is an advertisement, but they are providing a free service that may be of use to people of this forum.

Edited to add: If they were asking for a fee, I would have agreed wholeheartedly, ARB.

I checked them out ... they seem to be new, but actually do have a database of competitions. There may be better sites, though.

Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

Because you violated copyright laws.  That has not been done here.  And this forum is not only for math.  Furthermore, the site can help you to find math competitions, so it is about math.

It may be an ad, but it is related to maths or science. Besides, it isn't like they're asking for money.

Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

A.R.B, I've been reading through this and http://www.gimelnus.com is not advertising and www.competearoundtheworld.com is a advert, but it doesn't need to be closed down.

Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

I agree with Anthony that the gimelnus thing is an advert. It's in the signature though, so I can't tamper with that. MathsIsFun already removed it once, but then mpthomas put it back.

The competition site is technically an advert as well, but the advertiser isn't getting money and it's of possible interest to us, so there's nothing wrong with it.

Look, A.R.B, I've got advertisements on my website,www.freewebs.com/roadster96) but I can't get them off. I care about advertisements on my website, I've got the Adidas football shoes and I'm annoyed, because I don't want advertisements on there.

I guess it's the little things that set you off then, huh?

You wouldn't get paid for writing a text advertisement on a mathematics forum. Unless it just happens to have a lot of traffic and people visit the place ... with further reasons.

Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

You're calling them vultures for one advertisement ... prove to me that it is indeed a 'constant' advertisement by your logical reasoning. You can't 'ban adverts' ... they can come in image format or text format. Come up with a script that can tell the difference between a normal post and a normal post with a small advertisement in it.

Re: Do you want to participate in a competition?

There's nothing wrong with adverts here, as long as the thing they're advertising is free and of possible interest.

Posting your own adverts in protest is not the way to convince people to agree with you.
