DROD

Does anyone here know of, play and/or worship a puzzle game called DROD?

I'm asking because I consider it to be easily my favourite game, and of the people I've showed it to, the people who liked it most tended to also like maths. The game isn't particularly maths-oriented, but the correlation is definitely there nonetheless.

I'm trying not to advertise it too much, because the newer versions of the game cost money (although not much). This is more of me being curious about who here already plays it, rather than me trying to get other people to buy it. Having said that, it would be an excellent purchase though. tongue

So to summarise, if you play it then woo go you and if you don't but I've piqued your interest, then you should try out the free original version.

Re: DROD

Thanks for that link, I'm trying it out now. Seems like a good concept and a good idea for a game, I like puzzles. Am currently on the second level. smile

Re: DROD

Alright, I guess you could call me a professional DROD player now, as I have been playing it all the time. Mathsyperson; Did you make any user-created holds? Drod.net has an Architectural board for that kind of stuff, there are thousands of holds to download and play ... a couple involve mathematical puzzles (some involving basic addition all the way up to calculus). It's amazing what you can do with DROD since the Webfoot days.

Re: DROD

I can't beat the second level. You have to destroy all the monsters to move the green slab but they are behind the arrows, and I can't get to them. i.e Second Level: Once South, Thrice East.

I'm only on level 3 but I've been playing all night, yeah, I'm hooked.

Re: DROD

Identity; I'll have a look at that level and I will get back to you ASAP.

bossk171, there is a secret room on Level 4 at the top-left-hand area, allowing you to warp to certain levels. One of them leads to the first level, one of them leads to the sixth level, and one of them leads to the seventh.

I'd say Levels 1, 2 and 3 can be completed in less than 20 minutes.

Re: DROD

OK, played through the game again up to this level, I'll provide a demo, OK? Do you know how to play user-created demos?

Re: DROD

Ack, my DROD game is not recording demos!

Before you complete level 3, master the use of mimics. Level 4 will seem utterly impossible if you are not a very good user of mimics.

What room(s) are you stuck on?

I'm not calling you that until you beat AE. tongue
I've played around in the editor a little bit, but not nearly enough to make something of high enough quality to publish. I've got maybe three (semi-)original rooms that I'm happy with.
Thanks for the bump though. Interest has tripled overnight. big_smile

To Identity, the trick with orb puzzles is to look for 'important' orbs, that must be struck because they are the only one that controls a certain door. It's also a good idea to note which orbs can be struck last because they don't close anything. Pencil and paper are extremely helpful.

Re: DROD

I never used any pencil and paper ... too much time wasting.

Also, I have completed DROD: AE, all 25 levels ... took quite a while (and that 'Neather .... pfft. There is a patch to make him go away though) to complete.

For the infamous orb puzzle on Level 3, the '8 gates' the simplest solution is to:

Mathsyperson, have you completed the original 25 levels of KDD?

Re: DROD

Naturally. smile
I'm pretty sure that patch is actually to fix a bug that was making him disappear.
Purposely getting rid of him would trivialise some rooms and make others impossible, so it would be kind of silly to do that.

Re: DROD

You could toggle him on and off, that was a feature. It was not an official patch so I guess it wouldn't be looked kindly upon by Erik.

Can you find the Webfoot version?

Re: DROD

As far as I know, the Webfoot version was never released free. There might be some abandonware site with it, but I don't know of one.

There's not much point in getting it though, really. As far as I know it's just AE but minus the editor and checkpoints. yikes

Re: DROD

Recite pi. Make that rule your life, too. smile

(Just so you know, your signature is causing some members' pages to be stretched ... not that mine is stretched, because the limit is working. I would suggest you shorten it slightly. Also, according to my memory of pi, you're missing a line somewhere; '253421170679'. Then it goes on with '821480865132823066470938446095505822231725359408'. )

Re: DROD

Hee hee, it does that to people. Completing it is pretty much the only way of escaping its grasp. big_smile That or getting impossibly stuck.

About the signature, I think you're alright because instead of stretching, the page just crops off a bit of it. If you want people to see it uncropped though, you might want to split it into 3 lines.

Re: DROD

I got stuck on a hold for JtRH called 'Roaches Revenge'. Turns out that the room I was stuck on was an error and was in fact impossible to complete. -_-'

Try to use walls effectively so that the roaches can only get at you from one direction.
