I love japanese.. and btw justlooking typing in katakana isnt that helpful XD i think he meant the phonics. Either way I can
only read kanji not katakana ^^

btw. ichigo=strawberry not number one leader. instead of odigoto i think its arigato. But then again people have different spellings. And btw its Konbawa.

The best one is: hajimemashíte, pronounced hahzyee-mem-she-tay.
It means "Nice to meet you"

There are some rules in Japanese about slurring the word when certain sounds are followed by 'hard' sounds. Compare to English where people commonly drop the G from words ending in -ing.

Here's something interesting. When Japanese is written using the English alphabet the 5 vowels always make the same sound, unlike in English.
A is like the A in father.
E is like the A in May.
I is like the E in feet.
O is like the O in show.
U is like the U in flute.

Expanding on espeon's post above, some of the words have multiple meanings. For instance, "shi" can mean four or death. Tsuki refers to "lunacy" so it can either mean 'to do with the moon' or a type of madness. Kitsune-tsuki is the "fox madness" that men are fabled to suffer from after meeting the seductive shapeshifting kitsunes.

Maybe there's different accents? I've only ever heard it pronounced "Ee-Ay".

Romanized, it would probably be similar to 'jo-na-son'

Technically, Japanese doesn't even have an 'R' as we do in English, it is often described as a cross between an English L and an English R.

I have noticed that many pronounciations of the 'U' in Japanese are either silent, voiced quietly, or very similar to the French 'U'.

Actually they have tons of R's. They just dont have any U's. For example my real name would have to be configured into
Heren not Helen. Japanese have no L's but sometimes say their R's as L's. You can check any Japanese word and that fact
will be true

Indeed. I often do hear the sounds seeming to alternate between L and R though... especially in songs. Oh well.
