The forum is run using "PunBB", which currently has a new version in beta development: http://punbb.org/forums/viewforum.php?id=64
I have been waiting a long time for this, and I intend to run some tests on it.
But we won't go "live" with it until it is fully released and we can be reasonably sure it is safe and secure. I will also need to upgrade all our "mods" (such as latex support, the hide tag and image upload)
But it is good to see that things are moving along!

Great! Can you make avatars bigger on it?
School is practice for the future. Practice makes perfect. But - nobody's perfect, so why practice?

You can make them bigger now (a little) ... to 80x80

What about adding angles. And math avatars.

excuse me where can i find avatars

We don't have any here, but there are plenty if you search the internet ... or make your own. Just make sure it is not over 80x80 in size.

Update: they are predicting a few weeks will see a stable release of v1.3
I have been testing the beta, and am pretty close to getting the "math" and "hide" tags working on it as well as math smilies like π (colon-pi).
When they release it, I may wait a week or so to see what people's experience is before we upgrade.
When we do upgrade I expect some minor problems, because there is a difference between testing and real life

I hope the new version will be lots of times faster.

V1.3 has no speed improvements that I know of.
What we are running now seems fast for me, is it slow for you?

Oh no, its not slow for me. I know were pretty fast now as we are. I was just wondering if we could go even faster.

New Developments! PunBB has just been forked to FluxBB
You see, some months ago the copyright to PunBB was sold. Many promises of "nothing will change, it will still be free", but the lead developer (Rickard Andersson) eventually dropped out, and other team members stated "Now that circumstances have changed with the inevitable shift of power within the project, we all feel that we need a degree of control over future development ... we have started our own fork of PunBB called FluxBB"
So we may end up moving to FluxBB (where most of the original PunBB team have gone)!
Stay tuned

FluxBB is nearly at beta3: http://fluxbb.org/trac/roadmap
(Also: http://fluxbb.org/trac/timeline )
I am tempted to upgrade once it reaches there, as it seems to be really well tested.

Hope it wont mess up LaTeX installation this time (as the last upgrade did).
Offline
Probably
It will be a major upgrade as the whole structure is different.
But for me the big plus is that instead of hacking the source code directly to add functionality, it will support "extensions", so I can encapsulate all the LaTeX code into one extension. And I can install/uninstall other peoples extensions easily (such as PM).

Hitherto, I have been browsing the forum on Internet Explorer. But I have just switched to browsing on Firefox and found that the pages load ten times faster on Firefox.
The site is definitely Firefox friendly. I recommend those who havent used Firefox to try it and see the difference.
Offline
I love Firefox, too

Firefox is good in my opinion better than IE, but then theres other browsers that are competing with firefox.
To name a few:
Maxthon
Sleipnir
Google Chrome
i have used all of them and yet i like firefox because it can be hacked.
Offline
Chrome is supposed to be the new mozilla firefox.
Has anyone on the forums here tried it? if so, leave some feedback, I'd be interested to see the difference.
What are the differences careless? does it run the same? slower?

glen101 i stopped using Chrome because it takes a load of memory and it still has a few bugs.
I wouldnt say Chrome is the new FF because of the "tweaks" you can add to FF.
Yes i would recommend Chrome if some1 wanted a change from IE and FF but i personally wouldn't start using just yet.

ah ok fair enough, using a lot of memory isn't good at all though.
I think I'll do what your doing, and stick with good ol' Firefox.
