Sorry, I can't give any practical help because I only have a PC and laptop, not a smartphone.

Try this search on YouTube: "How to copy image url on android". That brings up many tutorials, and hopefully you'll find one that suits.

However, that will take some doing! Some have presenters with very strong accents, some in non-English, some with awful music and no vocals, some with irrelevant introductory content to ignore...etc, etc.

I couldn't find a really good video tutorial, but here are two of the better ones (though not all that easy to follow!):

how to copy Google images into url in android (many positive comments from posters)
How To Copy Image Link From Google In Mobile (positive poster comments, but one said this: "Well but you don't need to open image in new tab you can simply press on preview image and copy the link")

I found the first one easier to understand, but for your purposes, it really starts at the 1:00 minute mark. You'll probably need to watch it several times. Also, you may need to pause & replay some sections where the presenter's too quick, so that you can see the particular action she's performed on her phone.

I had thought that amnkb's tutorial would've got you over the line...

I thank you for your effort and time. Let me see what I can do.

i think it means prime polynomial
thats any polynomial that isn't factorable over the integers
so x^2+1 is prime, but x^2-1 isn't

Michael Sullivan provided one sample using a binomial. I will post his example as a guide for you to figure out this trinomial on my next day off. Keep in mind that Saturday is my Monday and it begins with a double shift. Tomorrow another double with 3 hours of sleep in between due to distance. Ever has an insane schedule like this?

Is this meaning for all x ∈ {+integers} x^2 + x + 1 is a prime number?

Counter example x = 18 gives 343 which is not prime.

So if the question doesn't mean this, what does it mean?

I've tried a number of reliable maths sites and none have a concept 'quadratic prime'.

has the book covered the quadratic formula yet?
if yes, then set equal to zero and show quadratic formula has no real solutions
if no, then use that x^2 = x*x and 1 = 1*1 so any factors have to be (x [sign] 1)
try (x - 1)(x - 1), (x + 1)(x + 1), and (x + 1)(x - 1)
when none of them works then quadratic is prime

Let me see what I can do.

Actually, the image extension can be any of '.gif', '.jpeg', '.jpg', '.png' (and probably more). These all work:
https://i.imgur.com/t5wC8Hg.gif
https://i.imgur.com/t5wC8Hg.jpeg
https://i.imgur.com/t5wC8Hg.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/t5wC8Hg.png

The important thing when copying an image url is that the link you're copying must refer to an 'image address' (ie, with an 'image extension' as above), not something else like a 'link address'.

Btw, the direct Imgur url to an actual image begins https://i.imgur.com... ('i.' signifying it's an image link, I suppose).

Can you please show me by uploading a picture here (any picture) and showing me the step by step process? Is there a YouTube channel that explains how to do this? I learn best through video clips.

 99(a/b) = 16

Interesting problem for which Sullivan does not give a sample.

Yes, the question is exactly as stated in the book.

Here are the instructions:

Factor completely. If the polynomial cannot be factored, say it is prime.

This is question 119 in the textbook.
The textbook answer is (x - 1)(x + 1)(x + 2).

if you multiply that back out you get

you factored pairs to get to here

but these dont have common factors so nothing can be pulled out front

i think the book typoed the first minus; it was supposed to be plus

I also think there is a typo for this question.
The textbook answer is (x - 1)(x + 1)(x + 2).
It doesn't make sense.

There is no difference between the formula you provided and the textbook x^3 - a^3 = (x - a)(x^2 + ax + a^2). So, I don't understand your comment about me being confused. I didn't go further in my work.

Let x = (3x - 2)

the line above is where you use "x" to mean 2 different things: the placeholder in the factorisation formula and also the variable from the original expression

taken literally it says

harpazo1965 wrote:

The current time is 12 noon CST. What time (CST) will it be 12,997 hours from now?

The question looks easy enough but it's tricky to me.
I know there are 24 hours in a day. So, I decided to divide 12,996 by 24 hours, which yield the decimal number 541.54166666667.
Of course, this decimal number tells me nothing.

it tells how many days are included in 12996 hrs: 541 days
so 541*24 is how many whole days
subtract from 12996

(did you divide 24 into 12997)

harpazo1965 wrote:

A. How do I find the correct answer?

B. If the quotient found leads to the right answer, can you show me how?

however many hrs are left over after subtracting you add to 'noon' to get the time.

Let me see.

12,997 ÷ 24 = 541.54166666667

541 x 24 = 12,984

12,997 - 12,984 = 13

12 noon + 13 hours = 25 hours.

What time (CST) will it be 12,997 later?

I say 1am.

You say?

Bob wrote:

Look at the following fractions:

1/4 = 25/100
1/5 = 2/10
1/25 = 4/100

If you choose a fraction which has only 2s and 5s as prime factors you can always re-write it with a denominator which is a power of ten.

eg.  40 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5.  1/40 = 1/(2x2x2x5) = (5x5)/(2x5x2x5x2x5) = 25/1000

Fractions which have a denominator which is a power of ten will always result in a terminating decimal.

1/4 = 0.25
1/5 = 0.2
1/25 = 0.04
1/40 = 0.025

No other prime factor can be manipulated in this way to give a terminating decimal so all other denominators result in recurring decimals.

eg.

1/3 = 0.3333333.....
1/7 = 0.142857142857......
1/11 = 0.090909.....

If you have a recurring decimal it is always possible to turn it into a fraction.

eg.

0.16161616......

let a/b = 0.16161616.....

100a/b = 16.16161616.....

Subtract
99a/b = 16

a/b = 16/99

eg.

0.7666666....

= 7/10 + 0.0666666

so use the above technique to get a/b for the recurring part and then sum the two fractions to get another rational.

So if all terminating and recurring fractions are rationals everything else must be irrational. So the irrationals are non-terminating, non-recurring decimals.

Bob

I totally get it. Thanks.

I do have one question.

You said subtract but there is no subtraction symbol in your work. I assume you made a typo. Yes? Also, can you answer my thread "Future Time". No one has replied. It's a rather short word problem but a bit tricky for me.

99a/b = 16

Maybe you're confused because you have used x to mean two different things. Let's avoid this by using y and b for the identity:

So y = 3x - 2 and b = 3.  This will give you the linear factor and the quadratic cannot be simplified further.

Bob
