Observe that for the functions f1(x) =2  and f2 (x) = ex ,

1. f1(0) - 2. f2(0) = 0
Does this imply that f1 and f2 are linearly dependent on any interval containing x=0?

Under some circumstances a falling body B of mass m, such as the skydiver, encounters air resistance proportional to its instantaneous velocity v. Use Newton's second law to find the differential equation for the velocity v of the body at time t. Recall that acceleration is a = dv/dt. Assume in this case that the positive direction is downward.

EXPLAIN THE WAY THAT IT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR MY PREPARATION OF THE TEST....

1. non-linear, 2nd order

2. non-linear 4th order

3. non-linear, 3rd order

I am not sure if its right.........I am preparing myself for a test so please tell me where am i wrong...
I will appreciate your help...

Verify functions are solution of given differential equations.
1. dy/dx -2y = e^3x;  y=e^(3x) + 10 e^(2x)

2.       y' + y = sin x;  y= 1/2 sin x - 1/2 cosx + 10 e^(-x)

3.[(y')^3 + x y' =y; y=x+1

A wind farm generator uses a two-bladed propeller mounted on a pylon at a height of 20
meters. The length of each propeller blade is 12 m. A tip of the propeller breaks off when
the propeller is vertical. At that instant, the period of rotation of the propeller is 1.2 sec.
The fragment flies off horizontally and strikes the ground at point P.
(A) Calculate the initial speed v0 of the tip as it is launched from the propeller.
(B) Calculate the horizontal distance from the base to point P.
(C) Calculate the angle from the vertical at which the tip strikes point P.

Two blocks connected by a string are held at rest along an incline plane by a second
string tied to a wall (see the diagram). The mass of the lower block is 1.0 kg; the mass of
the upper block is 2.0 kg. The incline makes an angle of 37° to the horizontal. Calculate
(A) the tension in the string connecting the two blocks.
(B) the tension in the string between the 2.0-kg block and the wall.

Trains A and B face each other on adjacent parallel tracks. They are initially 400 meters

apart and at rest. Train A accelerates at 1.4 m/s2 to the right and train B accelerates at 2.2

m/s2 to the left.

(A) Calculate the time it takes the trains to pass each other.

(B) Calculate how far train A has traveled during this time interval.
