#856 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » So how was your school year/ semester ??? » 2007-05-24 05:33:23

Ive broken up from school... but still need to come in for exams. Ive had a few so far (RS, BCS and English literature), but ive got most of them in the next three weeks. Then a nice long 2 and a half month summer reward for all my hard work smile:):) Still dont know what subjects to take though

#857 Re: Help Me ! » Median » 2007-05-24 05:09:13

yes but what if there is an even number of values? wouldnt it be more sensible to add 1 before halving to find the 50% value? - and this could be done for both odd and even. Eg if there is 10 values, the middle value is the 5.5th - which would be (10+1)/2. If there is 9 values, the middle value would be the 5th - which would be (9+1)/2. I would just like to know when estimating the median from a c.f. diagram to make sure its as accurate as possible.

Can anyone help?

I know its the middle number, so Im just wondering whether I should use n/2 or (n+1)/2 to find the median? and is it the same for both listed and grouped data?

Thanks.

What do you mean second ice age?! the world is billions of years old, and glacial periods arrise every 10 000 years or so (whilst lasting 110 000 years) - so there has been thousands of ice ages! In the last ice age, 66% of Britain was completely covered in ice - thats as far down as the Thames! The next glacial period is actually due to start now!

Oh i thought it was meant to be a lot harder.

We've been told that regular maths and physics have by far the biggest step-up from GCSE, so it made me think Further Maths would be unbearably hard. I dont mind a challenge, but only a challenge i can do tongue

#864 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Advice needed! » 2007-05-24 03:27:03

Thanks for the advice.. im still not 100% about further maths though. The only thing im really concerned about is what grade i would be able to get. Realistically i dont want to do an A-level unless im going to get an A in it, but i dont know whether i would be able to cope with further maths to get an A.

Thanks a lot Devantè... cool name by the way... where's it from? Im already enjoying the forum a lot, and I have learned a lot of new things! And i had a look at the 0.999 thing... I came to my own personal conclusion that it does in fact equal 1... im not 100% sure why though.

Thanks for the introduction...:)

I am a good reader, but i prefer the idea of working more slowly... especially as i'll do it over the summer so i wont be doing overly much...
