Ok, I need help with both polynomials and graph related questions.
Here are my polynomial questions.
Express x^2 in the form c(x+2)^2+a(x+2)+d
and
Express x^3 in the form (x+1)^3+a(x+1)^2+b(x+1)+c
and
Find the values of a,b and c such that x^2=a(x+1)^2+bx+c
and this is my graph related question.
Find the coordinates of the points of intersection for each of the following.
x^2+y^2=178
x+y=16
could you please try and explain them in depth as I am going to be tested on similar questions to this on Wednesday.
Thanks in advance,
Glenn.
Hi Michelle, welcome to the forum:)
I joined recently myself and this is a great forum for any questions you may have relating to maths.
I'm sure you will fit right in:)
thank you mathsyperson, thats exactly what I needed:D
ok this question just confuses me so much, I don't know where to begin. Ok here is the question.
If(3a+b)x^2+(a-2b)x+b+2c = 11x^2-x+4, find the values of a, b and c
could you please describe how to do this in detail as I am stuck.
Thanks in advance, glenn.
I live in Australia, and am currently in year 11
I am doing quite a large amount of maths involved subjects. I am doing Physics, Maths Methods, Maths specialist, I.T, and multimedia.
I want to study electronic engineering at uni which requires maths skills, I do enjoy maths and am looking forward to calculus integration in particular as it looks interesting.
That Sure Is Random!!!!!!!
Thank you Mathsyperson and Ricky!
thank you for the shown workings out Ricky, it really makes the difference, thanks for that:)
thanks for the use of this Ricky, I am looking forward to calculus:)
Thank you dharshi, however I want to know the steps involved using an appropriate method. Similar to what I posted.
Ok I understand up to here but what are the next steps.
Edit- I need to know the actual steps using some method, but I'm unaware of those steps
I think it becomes
5x+1=A(x+2)+B(x-1)
then I'm not sure.
can somebody please provide the steps.
Thanks in advance,
Glenn
Thanks luca:D
ah, now ive just stumbled upon another surd question.
(√a+√b)²=a+b+2√ab
determine the square root of 17+6√8
can someone explain how to do this please?
I hope you can help,
thanks.
thank you again for your thourough explanation it really makes the difference.
Ah, I really do enjoy playing around with these sort of programs, still the best one of these I've ever seen and used has to be megonphysics demo's they are so fun! the physics is so great. Ah I wish I could find it, it doesn't seem to exist on the web anywhere! if I do find it I will give you a link.
I can't thank you guys enough, your all Brilliant!
and yes my venn diagrams did look similar and now I see how you resulted with the answer, thanks for that, many thanks to everyone!
Thank you very much John E. Franklin for posting a very helpful website, it sure will come in handy if I need that quick guidance:D thanks again.
That is....... INSANE!
I myself have a 360:D
And I would definatly recommend COD4, Gears Of War, and Gears of war 2 when it comes out:D:D
Hi, I am having trouble with these 2 particular venn diagram questions. My venn diagrams are correct but I am uncertain of how you get the answers.
Here is question 1:
Fifty people are interviewed. Twenty-three say they like Brand X, 25 say they like brand Y, 19 say they like brand Z. Eleven say they like X and Z. Eight say they like Y and Z. Five say they like X and Y. Two like all three. How many like none of them.
Here is question 2:
Three rectangles A,B and C overlap(intersect). Their areas are 20cm², 10cm², and 16cm² respectively. The area common to A and B is 3cm², that common to A and C, is 6cm², that common to B and C is 4cm². How much of the area is common to all three if the total area is covered is 35cm².
If you do get answers could you please describe in detail how you derived that answer.
Thank you in advance,
Glenn.
ok I see what I've done wrong again thanks very much:)
Hmm. I most probably like rock the best out of the genres. My favorite band at the moment would have to be Breaking Benjamin. I really like the song Unkown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin.
Thank you mathsyperson and Luca:) it makes much more sense now.
I have worked out correctly questions 1&2 but question 3 I still am not getting correct.
√3+√2/ √3+√2/ √3+√2/ (√3)²+(√2)²/ ?/
√3-√2 = √3-√2 x √3+√2 = 3 + 2 = 5
thats as far as I got, the answer is 2√6+5
I got the 5 but the numerator confuses me.
Yeah, typical. I had not had a blackout for quite some time prior to yesterday and that weather was very strange as the day before was fine.
Yeah for me it was total havoc, it was my brothers birthday and he asked a friend over around 10 minutes before the first blackout! and when he arrived we just sat around talking, and it was very windy for the entire day!
Well Melbourne did suffer a massive storm yesterday, it was terrible I lost power for 3 hours during the afternoon then an hour at night and the power continued flicking off for the entire day, and it was the most memorable day for my brother as it was his birthday!
yes, that is what I mean.
This is what I got so far however it is still not the right answer:(
according to the book the answer is 4root5+9
what am I doing wrong? please help.
