Hi, what's actually the difference between a Taylor series and a power series? I looked at the definitions on wikipedia and couldn't work out how they were different.

Hi Onyx,
A Taylor series is a power series. It is easier to differentiate the difference between a Taylor series and a formal power series.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

So a Taylor series is just one type of power series?

Hi Onyx;
Yes, I believe so. There are other types of power series, Maclaurin, Laurent, Puiseaux and formal to name some.
