Trig is driving me crazy

I dropped out of school sometime ago but am back. To make things worse my math teacher is making things difficult for me. He hardly takes his time to explain math concept and formulas.
The problem am having in trig at the moment is where do i start from to prove things like this:

? Secondly in the following formula

why did we divide through by

and not

or

?

. Both are other trigonometry identities. However, we are encouraged to divide it by

which consists of two most basic trigonometry as a result.
