Hi Lzma;
Welcome to the forum. Can you pick up Fimte mathematics with applications by Mizrahi and Sullivan any edition?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

The more combinatorics and matrix algebra the better. You can't ever have enough Algebra or Calculus. You will need some set theory to understand the terminology. Stay away from books that think discrete math is group theory or boolean logic. You will only need a smattering of those to start and some books go overboard.

Some of them are and some are junk. That goes for all fields. Try to get some knowledge of number theory and proofs too. Try to get your hands on a CAS.
Above all do problems, as many as you can. Get them wrong, get them right it really does not matter, just do them. Excellence comes later and rarely. Hang on forums like this one and I mean do not be invisible, post!!!!
Do not worry about your reputation, you will make errors every day. You will be corrected every day, consider that a free education. The stronger posters will find your mistakes and correct them, accept that.
