Re: exponential limit

Hi jacks;

Is there a good reason why you should not just subtitute x = 2 to evaluate this limit?

Re: exponential limit

hi jacks and bobbym,

If that's all the question asked then we might have to reject the idea that it has a limit as it doesn't get closer and closer to 25, as x gets closer and closer to 2.

If 'evaluate' is all that is required, then I agree with you, 25 looks like it.

Re: exponential limit

Hi bob bundy;

If you come at it from the left it will approach 25. If you come at it from the right it is complex but the still approaching 25 because the complex part of the argument is going to 0.

What did you get?

Do British people celebrate a similar holiday to Thanksgiving?

Re: exponential limit

hi bobbym,

I hadn't actually looked at the complex values.  Just trying to sound intelligent without actually thinking.  smile

Thanksgiving?  No.  Here nobody knows when anyone 'arrived' because we're such a mixed up lot anyway.

On November 5th we have bonfires and fireworks.  Now, don't laugh when I tell you why.

Guy Fawkes was the leader of a gang that planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament with barrels of gunpowder.  He got caught with 36 barrels in the undercroft (cellar) and had a bit of a job explaining why he was there.  Along with other conspirators he was hung, drawn and quartered.  If you don't know what that consists of, sorry but there are children who read this,  so I'll stay silent.

Given what a fuss we make of Robin Hood you'd think he would be a national hero!

The weird thing is, we celebrate his failure by making a dummy guy out of old clothes and stuffed with paper and burn it on a bonfire.  On reflection a turkey meal with your family sounds much more civilised!

Have a great day.

Bob

Re: exponential limit

Hi Bob;

I did not know that. Yes, I know what drawn and quartered is. Seems harsh by today's standards but fitting when you consider what he was up to.

People are not hung, unless possibly, they are literally placed on a hook
on a wall (or similar) as a picture frame would be.

Re: exponential limit

Hi Bob;

I knew nothing of that event but found it all here.

http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/gu … f_1605.htm

Some of the conspirators were hung, drawn and quartered with Fawkes. Some authors feel that it was a setup and Fawkes was just a pawn. All told it is a fascinating story.

They were hanged. And I already mentioned that in the previous
post.

What's worse than making the error the first time with the other
poster is to repeat it a second time.

You are incorrect. Please read the link:

He uses hung several times.

Most, is not all. Other countries and other times have different usage.

Richard Nordquist wrote:

Our evidence shows that hung for hanged is certainly not an error.Educated speakers and writers use it commonly and have for many years. . . .

Stop correcting posters grammar and spelling. You have done that many times. I will delete anymore of it. People hopefully are having a good time in here. They do not wish to be harassed by you because you think they spell bad, or forgot to capitalize a name. This is going to stop.
