Basically it is curve fitting. Finding the realtionship between variables. If you know what a graph is then you will know what I mean.

It is much easier to understand with an example. Did your teacher give you one?

Welcome to the forum. 

Our very own MathsIsFun leader has also made some pages on this although the term 'regression' is not used.

Regression analysis is a way to calculate a 'line of best fit'. 

Often you will meet problems where the line is straight, but this is not a requirement. 

Trying to fit a curve is more difficult.
