Permutations
There are four people.
You have 5 sweaters , 4 overcoats and 3 caps .
You wish to keep 8 clothes for yourself and give 4 clothes to them. One cloth to each person.
In how many ways can you give them the clothes?

I'm not blaming you. You found it in a book because I got it from a book-person too. My problem was not original.
For each of the 4 persons you have 3 options, sweater, overcoats, and caps, The answer should be 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81. But if you give 1 cap each to the 1st, 2nd and the 3rd person, then for the 4th person you will be left with 2 options only. So, the final and correct answer should be 81 - 1 = 80
