If we multiply two factors with the same base, we keep the same base and simply add the exponents.
Say, a^4 • a^7 = a^(4 + 7) = a^11.
What if the exponents are variables?
Say, 5^(x + y) • 5^(2x + 3y).
I keep base 5 and add the exponents.
