Factor 3x^2 - 3x + 2x - 2 by grouping.
Problem 52; page 57.
Let 3x^2 - 3x be group 1.
Let 2x - 2 be group 2.
Factor rach group separately.
Group 1
3x^2 - 3x becomes 3x(x - 1).
Group 2
2x - 2 becomes 2(x - 1).
I now have this:
3x(x- 1) + 2(x - 1)
I only need one (x - 1) factor in my final answer.
My answer: (3x + 2)(x - 1).
