Re: Plane Shapes

Wow. Here we are another year later and we are back doing this sheet again. I just ran across this answer and I thank you for it #22. Now I understand what they are trying to get across.

Re: Plane Shapes

My daughter is doing math homework from Harcourt lesson 18.4 Problem Solving-Making a Model.   The problem we are having is there is a picture of a hexagon and the example says you can make 3 parallelograms.  We have to actually draw  a hexagon and make 3 parallelograms out of it?  Please Help!

Re: Plane Shapes

The hexagon needs to be regular (or at least, there need to be some restrictions on it. Trying this on a general hexagon won't work).

You've interpreted the question right. You just need to look at your hexagon and draw some more lines on it to turn it into 3 parallelograms.

Hint: The 3 lines you draw should all have a common endpoint, somewhere inside the hexagon.
If you can't get it after a while, take a break from the problem and draw some cubes. smile

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: Plane Shapes

GREAT.  I have just jointed the bunch.  I have no idea what to do here. My son says the teacher told them to write" 6 sides, 6 angles, 6 vertices for the first one. etc..  (Yes.. I have the same worksheet as the rest) but 3 and 4 are stumping me.

Re: Plane Shapes

My child came home with the same sheet today.  What is the answer to #4.   It has two squares, one rectangle and one triangle.  I never thought 2nd grade math was so hard.

Re: Plane Shapes

Okay, it's now 1/5/09.  This blog has been going on for four years...same worksheet.  LOL.  I, too, had trouble figuring out what the heck to do.  My daughter and I just had a great laugh reading all the posts out loud.  Now we understand the worksheet AND had some quality bonding time.  Bonus!  Thanks.

Dear 'A Parent',

Re: Plane Shapes

My daughter brought this same worksheet home today, and I would not know what to tell her without this thread!  Thanks SO MUCH for making me stop and think like a 2nd grader...still think it's geometry and not algebra however...

Re: Plane Shapes

My daughter brought home this same darn worksheet. I so wish the teachers would send home a few pages zeroxed from their math book explaining the shapes, so parents can better reinforce what the teacher is trying to cover. And this coming from a former teacher (specials though, not classroom....and I'm too old to remember all this stuff...)
I found this site extremely helpful and a time saver.

Thanks a lot, Brenda1!
We'd be much more happy if many more children/parents find this website helpful!
