volume of cone-help!

I need to teach this and i am not sure if I have it figured correctly.

Substitution

A pile of sand can often be approximated by a cone shape. Using the formula for the volume of a cone (see below) calculate an estimate for the volume of sand in a pile which is approximately conical shaped with a diameter of 1.6m and a height of 0.8m. Draw a diagram and write a few sentences on how you would explain your calculation to the children.

V = ⅓πr²h

thanks in advance

Re: volume of cone-help!

Volume of cone =1/3 X pi X radius X radius X height
Since the diameter in your example is 1.6 the radius is 0.8
V=1/3 X 3.14 X 0.8 X 0.8 X 0.8
V=1.6078/3
V=0.5358933
