No mathematical way that I know of but since this is an alphametic problem you can use simple logic: What you are really trying to solve is this:
A B C D
+ A B C D
--------------
E F G H I
E has to be a 1 and I has to be a 2,4,6, or 8. A has to be greater than 4 and so on.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
