Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Don't be so modest. At least I'm not telling them about that pair in the back of your closet with the British flag print from your days in the punk scene.

I never was into any scene. I was my own scene.

Nope. I was the intellectual type until the world turned me vicious.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Nope. I hated Atari, Commodore and Apple. I would not wear rainbow suspenders. There is no musician in me.

What do suspenders have to do with being a musician? And.. AHAH! You did not deny the checkered pants.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

I did have two pairs of weird pants. I do not know why I ever bought them. I prefer solids.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Brown checkered and the other was lighter with weird lines. Thinking about it now, they showed incredibly bad taste.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

The first one was like plaid , I guess. The second one was psychedelic. A term that predates you by thousands of years. Anyway, they were and are bad taste.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

So you are assuming I wouldn't have heard the word "psychedelic"? If I recall correctly, that is a 60's thing, which predates me by about 30 or 40 years, not thousands.

Same difference.

My grandparents who were around back then told me all about it.

I believe my aunt was a teen around that time. She never told me about it. Its too late to ask, she committed suicide about two years ago..

I am sorry to hear that. Just ask me if you ever want to know about that time.

Okay. thanks! big_smile

Find the equation of the line below. Arrange your answer in the form y = mx + b, where b is the constant.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Hi misheeru;

What a nice neat diagram. To answer the question use the point, point formula.

You have your two points:

( 0 , -3 ) which you label ( x1 , y1 )

( 4 , -1 ) which you label  ( x2 , y2 )

Now you just plug in:

Can you take it from here?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Okay, so I'll take care of the middle one.

So that comes to y -(-3) = 2/4(x - 0). right?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Yes, but be careful with that goofy notation they are allowing students to use today. You still have not got it in y = m * x + b form.

So, like

y = 2/4x - 3?
