Re: Equations with parenthesis?

That is very good only one thing is not quite done. Do you like that 2 / 4 ?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

No, not really. Can we reduce it or something?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

That is what I am getting at. Does something go into the top and the bottom?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Yes. 2 goes into both.

So we can reduce it to 1/2

So y = 1/2x -3?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Yes:

That is slope form. So I ask you what is the slope of that equation?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Yes, you just have to match it up with the m in y = m x + b. Now what is the y intercept?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

That is right!

The y intercept is the place where the graph crosses the y axis. How did you figure it?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

I actually just figured that since the -3 we used originally came from the y side... yeah it was more of a guess.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Okay, here are two simple ways.

1) Look at your graph. See that the point (0,-3) crosses the y axis at -3? That is the exact definition of the y intercept.

2) Take and plug in x = 0 into the equation you got.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Hi Sarah Rebekah 13;

That is a good question. It is called coordinate geometry and was invented by the great Rene Descartes, Misheeru is learning to plot functions and to undestand them.

More simply we are drawing straight lines on graph paper and looking at them.

Your forgot one key part of that definition, here:

More simply, we are drawing straight lines on graph paper, looking at them, and giving ourselves headaches.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

HAHA! No. I woke up with a bad one, and my meds are in my parents room and my dad is sleeping, so I will have to suffer or go to sleep until he gets up. I don't even have my nausea meds with me, ans thats the worse part right now.

Is it just me? Or are computer screens excellent headache amplifiers?

~ending annoying complaint session.

Anyways, how are you?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

They may be. Stare at them straight on. Make sure there is no glare. Adjust the contrast and gamma for your eyes. Make the fonts bigger. Rest your eyes frequently by walking around for 5 or so minutes.

I have been better.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Thank you. Unfortunately, my new school computer is a Dell Inspiron Mini, which I love, but it is horrible to look at it when my head hurts. I'm going to try to turn down the brightness a bit. And I can't even concentrate right now.

I'm sorry to hear that. Whats up? Anything you wanna talk about?
