Stuff came right out of the refrigerator. Hard to burn it in there.

I'd imagine so.

Okay what do you do now?

Do we... try to get x by itself?

Nope!

Same form right?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Oh yes, it is! I didn't even notice till just now!

Wait... but one is subtraction and the other is addition, do we need to change that?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Nope! Subtraction can be thought of as addition of a negative number.

7 - 5 is the same as 7 + (-5).

Now what is m in the second formula? Where did she go?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

y = 7/2 - 2

m is the slope right?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Yes, m is the slope so what is it here?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

m*x and m is the slope. So for ( 7 / 2 ) x the slope is  7 / 2

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Oh... wow. I was all intimidated by that one for nothing!

I think I get this, have a few like that, may I post my answers for them here so you can make sure I am doing them correctly?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Mmkay. smile

Find the slope of the line whose equation is 7y = 3x + 1

This one is already in y = mx + b

So 7y = 3x + 1

7y/7 = 3x/7 + 1/7

y = 3/7(x) + 1/7

So the slope is 3/7, right?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Really? Yay!

Alright. smile

Find the slope of the line whose equation is px - qy = r

px - qy = r

qy = px - r

qy/q = px/q - r/q

y = p/q(x) - r/q

slope equals p/q, right?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

That is correct, very good. Now take your general equation for a straight line in 2D and find the slope.

I hope you did not see that disgusting pig and his posts. I could not get to them in time.

How are you?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Pig? Did someone violate the rules?

(Sorry for the delay)

So if we are using Ax + By = C, do you want to use the previous equation; px + qy = r?
