Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Well, they are darn close, usually we follow a convention when writng things. We say -12 xy not -12yx. Start to do things in a more orderly fashion. That will cut down on silly mistakes.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Ah... okay.

8x² - 2xy - 12xy + 3y²

Is -2xy in need of editing as well?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Now look at it. Are there terms that are the same that can be combined?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

We will see...

8x² - 2xy - 12xy + 3y²

(-2xy) - (- 12xy)

= 10xy

= We will see...

8x² + 10xy  + 3y²

Is that alright?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

8x² - 2xy - 12xy + 3y²

(-2xy) - (- 12xy)

This is why I do not use the foil method. Why people in the past were better at math than today's people.

You are not subtracting a negative , you are subtracting a positve 12xy.

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Oh... okay

so...

8x² - 2xy - 12xy + 3y²

(-2xy) - (12xy)

= - 14xy

= 8x² - 14xy + 3y²

(give me five to whip up a quick sandwich)

Next... (ab - 9)(ab + 8)?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Are you sure?

(ab - 9)(ab + 8)

*F* (ab)(ab) = a²b²

*O* (ab)(8) = 8ab

*I* (-9)(ab) = -9ab

*L* (-9)(8) = -72

Am I darn close?

Re: Equations with parenthesis?

Wow... I almost fainted just then.

*F* (ab)(ab) = a²b²

*O* (ab)(8) = 8ab

*I* (-9)(ab) = -9ab

*L* (-9)(8) = -72

=  a²b² + 8ab - 9ab -72

(8ab) - (9ab) = - 1ab

a²b² - ab -72?

Well actually, they were a bit discombombulated. This one is neat and readable. Did I ever tell you about my favorite math teacher?

Yes, but it was a very very long time ago.

My new doctor is DDG, by the way. She is also a hell of a lot smarter then the old one.

Me too... she has already stated that she doesn't feel a 17 year old should be taking vicoden on a regular basis like I have been. She has also stated that she wants to get me into see a neurologist.

Well I think so, at the very least she is very hot.
