Hi survival;
No, this thread is fine. Just try to combine your posts together instead of posting twice. There is an edit button at the bottom of each post.
Report | Delete | Edit | Quote | Make Question
Press edit and you can edit or add to your posts. It is much easier for me to follow your questions then.

OK, my problem was in the last column. I did not realize I could edit my replies.

No problem! Much better!
Did you copy the equation correctly?

Let's look at it.
0.30 (6) + 0.05 =0.15 (6+x)

Don't know why but the answer is wrong. I wonder what happened.

Oh, would it make any difference if it says: "The solution set is:"
Is that why it won't take?

That is why I asked if you copied the problem right! Do they want a fraction or do they want a decimal?
I see what the problems is!
In post #150 you wrote
0.30 (6) + 0.5x = 0.15 (6+x)
But in post # 155 you wrote:
0.30 (6) + 0.5 = 0.15 (6+x)
Which one would you like solved?

It says solve the equation:
and after the problem,
The solution set is { }

0.30(6) + 0.05x=0.15(6+x).
I am sorry. It looks like i left out a zero.
Solution set is asked for.

Thank you! Here's a different one.
Solve for n.
F = 9/2 (n-10)
The solution set is n = ____F + ____.
Those lines are empty boxes.

n = 2 / 9 F + 10

You are quiet today. Are you all right?
Translate the verbal phrase into a mathematical expression.
The ratio of 33 and a non zero number, b
The mathematical expression is____

Just swamped with problems. I am currently working on 3 at the same time. I am not getting any answers. I know it is unusual for me to be quiet.

I hope everything will be okay.
If 5 is added to a number and the sum is tripled, the result is 19 more than the number. What is the number? I guess you would say 3 x 5 and just add the 19?

Yes, like you he is cramming. This is not good and I discourage it. I used to do it all the time but I still cannot recommend it.
This is a word problem. You translate each statement into algebra, one at a time.
Call the number n.
If 5 is added to a number
n + 5
and the sum is tripled
3(n+5)
The result is 19 more than the number.
n = 19
Set them equal to each other.
So the number is 2.

If 7 is added to twice a number and this sum is multiplied by 4, the result is the same as if the number is multiplied by 5 and 10 is added to the product. What is the number?

The poor fellow called blurguy is cramming for his statistics and probability assignments. I think his deadline is 4 / 24. gAr and I have been assisting him. I am researching 2 of his problems now.
The number is (- 6)

I know how he feels. Statistics is difficult, but can be used with a calculator sometimes. I don't think there are calculators for Algebra and next week after I finish this, I have a week of Geometry. I have never had geometry in my life.
Solve A = 2BD + 2BC + 2DC for C.

The linear model below gives the approximate enrollment, in thousands, for degree-granting institutions in a certain city from the year 2003, where x = 0 corresponds to 2003, x = 1 to 2004 and so on.
y = 0.2188x + 15.43
a. what is the projected enrollment for Fall 2012?
b. In what year is the enrollment projected to reach 18 thousand?
Ouch, that was a long word problem.

That is why we should go over the algebra here. All math builds on every other part. Algebra is certainly the foundation of all your later math.

I agree and others will learn as well.
This is confusing.
a. The projected enrollment for Fall 2012 is ___thousand.
That goes with the last problem.
