Re: Algebra word problems

Let's see, I clicked it in at 2 x 10^3, no take. I tried the 2000. Same. I must be typing it incorrectly.

Ok, the answer was correct, but it wanted it this way:
1.723 x 10^3.

It flipped numbers on the third one and now it's:

The mass of the sun is 1.989 x 10^30 kg and the mass of Pluto is 1.310 x 10^22 kg.
How many times larger in mass is the sun than Pluto?
The mass of the sun is ___times larger than the mass of Pluto.
(use scientific notation. Round to the nearest thousandth.)

I changed my answer so try that.

Look above. I edited it. LOL The numbers flipped over. It wanted it a certain way.

Re: Algebra word problems

It won't take the answer for some reason. Wonder what I did. I typed in 1.518 x 10^8. I have one try left.

If the above one gets solved, there is only one more problem in this section, then move to another that I have been working on today.
Here goes:
Write the number (other than dates) mentioned in the following statements in scientific notation.
A Fortune 500 company projects revenues of 46,980,000,000,000 in each of the years 2003 and 2004.
46,980,000,000,000= ______
(Use scientific notation. Use the multiplication symbol in the math palette as needed.)
Thank you. I hope this is not tiring you out.

Re: Algebra word problems

I am still getting:

1.5183206 x 10 ^ 8, I am rounding that to 1.518 x 10^8

Re: Algebra word problems

Thank you. It did take, after I used their symbol box with their x. They are picky ones. LOL
Okay, lets do one more and call it a day. I am wiped out and you must be as well.
It's the Fortune 500 company.

Write the number (other than dates) mentioned in the following statements in scientific notation.

Re: Algebra word problems

It is correct and that section is finished.
Let's call it a day and get rest. I will check in later today, have more to work on.
It is strange, but some people where I live, won't lift a finger to help a person and someone you do not know is a generous soul. Thank you again!

Re: Algebra word problems

You have met them. You are that generous soul, who helps others.
Good morning, I am working on this stuff again today:

Word problem:
A couple wishes to rent a car for one day while on vacation. Ford Automobile Rental wants $19 per day and $0.14 per mile, while Chevrolet-For-A-Day wants $15 per day and $0.16 per mile.
After how many miles would the price to rent the Chevrolet exceed the price to rent a Ford?
The price to rent the Chevrolet will exceed the price to rent a Ford after ______miles.
(Simplify your answer. Type an integer or a decimal.)
Thank you!

I think I must know how many days have gone by?

Re: Algebra word problems

Yes, I would like to know how many days have passed. For instance after 1 day the answer is 200+ miles. After 2 days it is 400+ miles etc...

Oh sorry, It does say 1 day. My mistake. 200 miles  is the break even point.

Re: Algebra word problems

You were exact with the 200 miles problem.

Solve the inequality, giving its solution set in both interval and graph forms.
-22< (line under the < 2x - 3 < (line under the<)  1
The solution set in interval form is [____, ____] (two numbers. The first is -infinity i think.
Thank you.,

Re: Algebra word problems

Okay, I saw my mistake up above but if they want an integer than the answer is 201 miles. Because 200 miles is the break even point. At 200 the cost would be the same for both cars.

Exactly!
and one related beside it.
Solve and graph, but I can graph it.

The solution set in interval notation is [    ,   )
Thank you.
