Point Slope Form of an Equation

hey can anybody help me see if i did these correct thanx

1.    Slope = ½; (h, k) = (1, -2)

        y-k=m(x-h)

        y+2=1/2(x-1)

        y+2=1/2x-1/2
          -2         -2

       y=1/2X+3/2

2.    Slope equals 2 and the line goes through the point (-1, 3)

2.     y-k=m(x-h)

        y-3=2(x--1)

         y-3=2(x+1)
         y-3=2x+2

         y=2x+-1

3.    The line goes through the points (8,5) and (9, 6)

3.     6-5\9-8=1\1=1  slope=1

        y-k=m(x-h)
        y-5=1(x-8)
        y-5=1x-8
        y=1x+3

4.    The line goes through the points (-1, -7) and (-8, -2)
4.       -5/7=slope or M
           y-k=m(x-h)
           y+2=-5/7(x+8)
           y=-5/7x+6

5.    The line goes through the points (1/2, 3/2) and (-1/4, 5/4)

5-     m=1/3

       y-3/2=1/3(x-1/2)

       y-3/2=1/3x-1/6

y=1/3x+4/3

Re: Point Slope Form of an Equation

Hi,

1) and 5) are correct. Small mistakes in others.

again just need 1x-3 instead of 1x+3.

when you have a number in front of parentheses you have to multiply everything inside them. so:

Re: Point Slope Form of an Equation

You might want to make another thread discussing it, but most of us think it's fun. Really, when you get past the high school and calculus level math and delve in to pure math, you find it much more enriching and fun (I really mean fun).

Hi anonymous;

Why not join up here and try some math?

He did score the second worst introductory post in history though.
