Hi Bob,
By "vary the scale" do you mean that you want to define how many lines there are (such as from x=10 to 50), or do you want to control the "skew".
The skew could be created by a transformation, something like (x,y) => (x + y*0.5, y).

It would be wonderful if you can arrange it so that the number of lines is variable and the skew too. As to how you make the skew, that transform would do it or just specify the angle between the lines.
