Hi
Now I know basically nothing about Maths but am working through trying to do a fire engineering report and am doing quite well relying on Year 12 maths that I did YEARS ago.
Please see my problem below. I know that it will be really simple for everyone on this site and sorry to be so basic but I have run out of people to ask and can go no further unless I work this out.
So thanks heaps for any replies
Shellie
It is just the exp that I dont understand.
R slope = R exp (0.069 slope)
So I am trying to work out the R slope.
I know that R on the right side is 3.
And I know that the slope in the brackets is 5.
So what I know is...
R slope = 3 exp (0.069 x 5)
Therefore:
R slope = 3 exp (.345)
Then I am stuck as I dont know what exp stands for.
Any clues?
I am trying to do a fire engineering report and am doing quite well but am stuck at this point.

Ok, thanks.
So, that's clear as mud to me....no offence.
So how do I allocate an amount to it?
Sorry for my cluelessness.

Certainly you must have more information than this to offer.
It seems out of context.
Without more to read, or more that you were trained,
I can't see completing what you want.
Maybe someone else can do better though.
Either get more info for me, or wait for another user.

Hi shellsie;
I am getting this far:
R slope = 4.235969759002977
Is R and slope 2 variables? Or is that 1 variable called Rslope?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Thanks for your reply
Rslope is one variable. And slope in the brackets is 5
So could you tell me how you worked out your answer.
I have no idea what to do with the exp
Thanks for your time

I noticed that 3 times inverse ln(.345) gets bobbys answer.
That is also 3 times 2.71828**0.345 where ** mean "raise to the power of".
e = 2.71828....
The log base e is the natural log or "ln" on a calculator.
But e raised to a power is done with inverse or 2nd function and then
press the "ln" key.
So 0.345, press inverse ln key and get 1.4119899.
Then multiply 1.4119899 by 3 for bobbys answer.
I don't know what this is all about and I don't support the answer,
but I am just trying to explain the number bobby has.

Both of you guys are absolute stars.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
Now I can go forward.
Just as you sent the answer through a friend rang and he also backed up the answer.
Thanks again
