finding the exponent of any variable in the given equation

how is he saying  that exponent of x^3 is " (2x)345 " in  (2x+4)8 ???

You mean

For

we can say a = 2x and b = 4, n = 8. Now just plug in to the above formula.

Now you only need to pick the k that gives you an x^3. Remember (2x)^3 = 2^3 * x^3. Can you find the k?
