Hi the dog obedience course has five parts and you have a small test at the end of each of them and then you have an exam papper at the end which if you pars you get a certifcet? you also get a kong flyer frisbee,a dog directory and a clicker traning kit as well? what do you think now then?send message now please?

You could try to do an FSMQ (free-standing mathematics qualification) in Year 12. I think this is equivalent to a GCSE maths but I'm not sure. Or you could re-take the GCSE in Year 12 -- my Year 12 friend did that and he passed when he did it again.

Hi bobbym. Mandy Newland here. Sorry it has been some time sine we last talk? but i had to take a break from maths as a friend of mine had cancer and on christmas day she pass away. I think i am ready to do gcse maths again. I am sorry to hear about your friend. -10c ! That is cold it is 45F here and I am freezing.

I do not know of a course in GCSE, someone else might help there. But if you have any problem just post it and I will help.

I managed to avoid the - 10° C by going to New Zealand for a month. Much warmer there!

Let me get this straight. You got a grade F on a foundation course GCSE? Am I right?

What should you do next?

That depends how important it is for you to get GCSE maths. If you are determined to have another go, here is what I suggest.

Step 1. Get a set of past papers; the more you can get the better. (Look back to post 69 for where you can download these.)

Step 2. Try a paper. Post on this forum what paper you have done and your answers. ( If it is a paper I can get a copy of, then there will be no need to post the questions! )

Step 3. I'll mark it for you; I'll say what grade you would get for your efforts; and then give you some advice so you can do corrections for those you got wrong.

Step 4. Correct as much as you can.

Step 5. Go back to step 2 with a new past paper.

Repeat this cycle as many times as you can between now and the summer exams. My experience with students I have helped in the past is that you will gradually get better and better marks as you learn how to tackle the problems and gain more understanding.

It's a long way from an 'F' to a 'C' ( note to bobbym: that's what folks in the UK regard as a pass ). So you will need to start now and aim to do lots of practice.

What exam should you do? All the UK exam boards have to follow the same National Curriculum so there is not much difference between them. My preference is for EdExcel because I find that board more 'student friendly' but, if you are going to re-sit at Hadleigh, you may have to use AQA again. I doubt it will matter much.

The key to success is understanding what you are doing and that's where the Maths Is Fun forum can help because there are lots of people here who will spend time showing you what to do with a maths question.

So your maths syllabus is determined already if your decision is to do GCSE maths. Your course material is lots of past papers. And your tutors are the other folk who post on this forum.

Hi bob bundy it's mandy here sorry it has been a long time but I have been work hard as a cleaner and trying to sort out a Gcse Maths Course to do ok? I have found a Gcse Maths Course with eDistance Learning have you heard of this? I don't know why November 2010 isn't there; but you will get 6 papers anyway which should be enough for you. That's two per exam session, 'non calculator' and 'calculator expected'. Make sure you download the foundation level papers as the highers are on the same link.
The mark schemes are there too; which will show you the answers and how to allocate marks if you get a question partly right.
My recommendation is to try these and post to the forum if you need help with a question. After you have done a few with no time limit; try some where you work to the time allowed so you can see what it is like to do a paper 'under exam conditions'.
The grade boundaries vary a little from year to year so I cannot say at the moment what % you need to aim for but I'll investigate further and post back if I find out anything useful.
