Hi gAr;

Hi bobbym,
The composition of g.f's is something that I didn't know.
Woo hoo, that's amazing!
What other problems can it solve?

Hi gAr;
Anytime something depends on how many of the other. Basically it is for this type of problem. I do not remember whether Conroy does one but I know that Tucker showed me how. This is the standard book problem.
I have 2 die. I throw one and then throw the other as many times as the number that comes up on the first die.What are the probabilities for each possible sum?
So we use the composition of functions to do this:

Hi,
Okay, thanks for the problem, and the nice solution.

What is the point of simplifying?
Also,you are really starting to get on my nerves a little (not really,but I am lacking the right expression).When I simplify you say don't.When I don't you say simplify.I can't keep up with you.
I am not trying to get on your nerves. These threads demand a little bit more accuracy. We get that accuracy by correcting each other. I realize that is hard to do without offending someone. But I hope you will understand that someone who corrects you is at that moment your best friend, if he is right of course.
Would you leave an answer as 2 / 4 or 32 / 64 or 50 / 100? For one thing you might confuse the person who is marking your paper. 2630 / 104 does not immediately look like 1315 / 52.
I never say in an answer not to simplify except in some rare cases. We can talk about them if you like. Sometimes when working on a problem it is advantageous to not simplify until the end. Those cases are rare.

Hi bobbym
I am not trying to offend you.I noted that I was lacking the right expression.
Well,I usually cancel,but a person marking my paper should be an expert on the subject capable on recognizing different forms of an answer.
Let's discuss it,but in another thread,so to not bury your problem.

I am not offended. You should not be trying to keep up with me. Never compete with an old man. There are two possibilities:
1)You beat him but you get no credit because everyone thinks you just beat a has been, a spent force long past his prime.
2) He uses his tremendous experience to beat you and you look doubly ridiculous having just lost to Grandpa.
