I have been looking at mine since 1998. I still only have scratched the surface. But even so a package can give useful results with only 10 minutes of training.

They are superhuman. Jerry Kiepfer largely wrote mathematica and William Schelter, maxima. Sage is the same. These guys are very, very good.

I have heard of William. There is no mention of Jerry though... Funny thing is, Maxima and similar CAS' are so unpopular.

That is a good balance. Science changes by the day, math does not. To be good at science requires lots and lots of math as you know.
