Measure length without bend ?

Suppose I have a pipe that is bent to a degree, measuring the length of the pipe from the top to the bottom at 11.76cm.  I want to know the length of the pipe as if there was no bend ?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

What do you mean by angle? What is the thickness of the pipe? What are the inside and outside diameters?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

You also need the angle of the bend.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

That is all the information I can retrieve.  The pipe is 11.76cm measuring from the top of the pipe to the bottom including the bend. I want the length of the pipe, as though the pipe is stretched out.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

You mean, direct distance from one end to the other?

Top of the pipe to the bottom? What does that mean?

Direct Length.

The white is the pipe.  From Top > Bottom measured.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

Then you need at least the angle of the bend.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

What if I don't have the angle, there is no other solution, I must have the angle ?

Is that to scale?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

You'll have to say something else about this pipe eg diameter perhaps

See picture below.  Three very different lengths but all have the same top to bottom measurement.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

The diameter is

.  If you really need the angle measurements, I'll get those numbers.  I'm really hoping there is a genius way to figure it out without finding out the length of the object, which includes pipe length followed by the angle of the bend measurements.

I do not think that is helping enough.

Will it bend?

The pipe? I guess it should. How does that help?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

Dunno, maybe we should ask Bender.

I just got an idea. How about posting a picture of the pipe. We might be able to get the other measurements needed.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

I asked him if that was to scale then I would just measure it. Since he is not providing any numbers a measurement would be better than a calculation.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

The picture above is a picture in a paint program, so my bet is that it is definitely not to scale. An actual picture would do just fine, though.

I am also wondering, what is the motivation behind this?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

I am not sure. But it also does not look like a pipe...

Re: Measure length without bend ?

The image is suppose to represent a pipe, use your imagination.  I gave the measurements from top to bottom, the top would be the top of the pipe as seen in the image, the bottom, obviously the bottom of the pipe.  Is there a formula to find out the length of the pipe as though the pipe did not have a bend, and was straight, or must the measurements of the bend of the pipe be known ?

Re: Measure length without bend ?

The question seems to be unclear and the diagram is even more. hmm

Does the pipe represent a chord? Yes?

Where did you get such a question from?

A chord, where would you get such an idea from, it's a rough pipe, sketch.

Re: Measure length without bend ?

sorry, I meant: Does the pipe represent an arc?
