I have now learnt it, thank you bobbym
I have a couple of problems I will post.
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing
Offline
Okay, let me see them.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Please help me here;
(X^2 - X^4) =
What would be the answer?
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing

Hi;
That is a different type of problem.
You are not multiplying or dividing so you can neither add or subtract exponents. You could factor out an x^2 from each term. Is that what you want to do?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

I am subtracting x^2 from x^4
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing

What does the problem exactly say?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

It is not from a book I made it up , all the same I have understood you, see these;
Find the truth set of the equations
(1) 3^2x+3 - 4(3^x+1)+1 = 0
(2) 4( 3^(2x+1) ) +17( 3^x ) - 7 = 0
It is numbered like this

Let's look at the first one:
This is what you have posted,
is that what you want?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

There is no bracket around 2x+3 in the book, but I will puts them for simplicity sake
Again,
3^(2x+3) - 4(3^(x+1)) + 1 = 0
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing

So we have this:
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

It is ( 3^(x+1) ) the 3^(x+1) are in a bracket
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing
Offline
Okay, looks like this?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Good!
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing

That's the same thing as the last one.
Here lies the reader who will never open this book. He is forever dead.
Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most. ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment
The knowledge of some things as a function of age is a delta function.

Yes, I know. But it looks like the book problem.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Anoni, you're right Thank you
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing

They want you to solve each of them separately?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
Offline
No not seperately, but simultaneously
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing
Offline
Ok I have now gotten what you mean,it is that both one and two should be solved separately
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing
Offline
Are you sure? Please check the wording carefully.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Please look at #307 it is numbered like that, with a heading words as;
"Find the truth set of the equations"
I know only one thing - that is that I know nothing
Offline
That could mean separately or simultaneously. I really can not tell.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
Offline
In truth, they are to be solved separately. The book has solved similar problems, but separately, in fact they are separate problems but those ones are difficult for me to solve that is why I posted them at the same time.

Actually they would be easier simultaneously.
They are hard to do. Have you learned how to factor polynomials?
